Litany and Prayer for Second Sunday in Lent, Year C

Call to Worship:
One: God is our light and our salvation.
All: Whom shall we fear?
One: God is the stronghold of our life.
All: Of whom shall we be afraid?
One: Let us not worry about what is behind,
All: Let us turn instead to what lies ahead.
One: Let us press on toward the goal of God’s call,
All: And keep our eyes on the prize!
One: And - let us sing!
All: Let us sing and make melody to God! Amen.

Community Prayer:
O God, Our Light and Guide,
You are with us each and every step we take in our lives. As Paul did for the church in Philippi, you care about us as we encounter obstacles and difficulties in our lives. You encourage us to lift our heads and look forward when we falter and or feel overwhelmed. When we are tempted to respect more those with money or power, you challenge us to instead lift up those without. In times when we feel worried or frightened, you comfort us and teach us to hold fast to what we know is right. Guide us as we try likewise to encourage, challenge and comfort those we encounter in our daily living. This we pray, O Loving God. Amen.

Litany for Second Sunday in Lent, Year B

Call to Worship for Second Sunday in Lent, 2015
One: Abram was very old and his wife was barren when God appeared to him.
All: God made a covenant with Abram.
One: God told Abram he would be the ancestor of a multitude of nations.
All: God said Sarai would give rise to nations, that kings would come from her.
One: God made an everlasting covenant between God and Abram and all of Abram’s offspring.
All: God promised to be Abram's God,
One: God promised to be God to Abram’s children and grandchildren throughout the generations.
All: And future generations will know and will worship God. All praise be to God! Let us worship.
           From Genesis 17:1-7, 15-17

Litany for 16 March 2014 - Second Sunday in Lent, Year A

16 March 2014
Second Sunday in Lent

One: We lift up our eyes to the hills.
All: Our help comes from God, who made heaven and earth.
One: Just as God told Abram, "Go from your country and your kindred."
All: "I will bless you, and you will be a blessing."
One: And just as Abram went out as he was told,
All: Let us open our hearts to hear where God asks us to go.
         Psalm 121 and Genesis 12:1-4a

Litany for 24 February 2013

Second Sunday in Lent
Call to Worship - 24 February 2013
One: Wait for God, be strong, and let your heart take courage.
All: For those whose minds are set instead on earthly things, those who act with greed,
One: Their end is their destruction, their glory is their shame.
All: No. Let us stand firm in God, wait for God, take courage from God.
One: For blessed are those who come in God’s name.
All: They shall see the goodness of God in the land of the living.
from Psalm 27 and Philippians 3:14-4:1
