Call to Worship for 28 July 2013

Proper 12 ~ Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

One: God, we bow down and give thanks to your name,

All: For your steadfast love and your faithfulness;

One: We give thanks with our whole hearts.

All: We sing your praise.

One: And when we pray, you answer, God..

All: You speak peace to those who turn toward you in their hearts.

One: Faithfulness springs up from the ground,

        And righteousness looks down from the sky.

All: Let us bow down and give thanks to God!

Ninth Sunday after Pentecost, Proper 11

One: O God, who may abide in your tent? 

All: Those who walk blamelessly, and who do what is right.

One: God, guide us to choose the better part,

All: Guide us so that we do not become distracted by trivial things,

One: That we might learn your truth and follow your will.

All: For, who will dwell on your holy hill?

     Those who speak the truth from their heart.

8th Sunday after Pentecost - Proper 10

One: O God, sometimes you surprise us.

All: When we think we've done enough,

     when we think we've done all we can possibly do,

One: You call us to show mercy even to our enemies.

All: You teach us to give justice to the weak and to the orphan.

One: You lead us to defend the rights of poor and homeless people.

All: You send us out to rescue the weak and the needy.

One: Keep surprising us in new and different ways,

All: That we might move closer to carrying out your will on earth. Amen.

   Who is our neighbor?

P: The oppressed and the hungry in our community.

L: The prisoners, strangers, and those who are bowed down.

ALL: Let us go likewise and share God's love.

One: Make a joyful noise to God!

All: Sing the glory of God’s name!

One: God sends laborers out to the harvest.

All: God sends us out, telling us to travel lightly,

One: Saying, “Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals.”

All: God sends us to cure the sick, and bring peace to all.

One: Awesome are God’s deeds!

All: Sing the glory of God’s name!

One: Give ear to our words, O God, give heed to our sighing.

All: Listen to the sound of our cry, for it is to you that we pray.

One: We confess our transgressions and acknowledge our sins to you.

All: You forgive us, and are a hiding place for us.

One: You preserve us from trouble and surround us with glad cries of deliverance.

All: Happy are those who are forgiven!

Leader: Happy are those who trust in the God of Jacob,

People: Happy are they whose hope is in God,

Leader: In God who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them;

People: Who keeps faith forever;

Leader: Who establishes justice for the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.

People: Who sets the prisoners free and opens the eyes of the blind.

All: Happy are those who trust in God!
